This year in Republika Srpska, work will be carried out on drafting management plans for two nature parks, “Tara” and “Prača,” as well as on the designation of a new protected area, it was highlighted at today’s meeting in Banja Luka between Assistant Minister for Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology Duško Solomun and Lejla Šuman from the Environmental Protection Resource Center.
Šuman is the coordinator of the project “FUTURE – A Path Toward the Development of a Greener Society and Sustainable Civil Society Organizations in the Field of Environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
The relevant ministry announced that the meeting discussed the implementation of project activities in 2026, which include the preparation of management plans for two protected areas each in Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In Republika Srpska, management plans will be developed for the nature parks “Tara” and “Prača.”
As part of the project, training will also be organized for rangers and supervisors in protected areas to enable them to pass professional exams, as well as visits to protected areas for the purpose of exchanging knowledge and experience.
Support is also planned for the preparation of a protection study for the designation of a new protected area in Republika Srpska.
Assistant Minister Duško Solomun said that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage, has defined a proposal for the new protected area to be the “Lebršnik” Nature Park, since in 2023 an initiative was launched to declare a protected area in the territory of the municipality of Gacko, which would include the Lebršnik mountain massif, Klinje Lake, and the southern side of the Volujak mountain massif.
Funds for the implementation of the project have been provided by the Government of Sweden, in a total amount of 3,790,000 BAM, with the project planned to run until October 2028.
The meeting in Banja Luka was also attended by Zineta Mujaković from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
