Skiers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as from across the region, have poured onto local mountains in recent days, taking advantage of excellent skiing conditions on Jahorina, Bjelašnica, and Vlašić.
That the season is in full swing has been confirmed by the Jahorina Olympic Center, which says the mountain is enjoying a true winter idyll.
“The ski resort is operating at full capacity, with exceptionally well-groomed and prepared slopes. Since the very start of the season, we have recorded strong visitor numbers, and accommodation capacities are almost fully booked. Announced new snowfall further promises an extension of excellent conditions for winter activities and mountain stays,” the Jahorina Olympic Center told Nezavisne novine.
Large numbers of skiers
They emphasize that they are very satisfied with the response from skiers and tourists.
“Interest in Jahorina grows year after year, and this season once again confirms that it is one of the most attractive winter destinations in the region. A special experience is night skiing, available daily on the ‘Poljice’ and ‘Partizan’ gondolas from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.,” they said, adding that there are around 50 centimeters of snow on Jahorina and that skiing conditions are exceptionally favorable.
“The combination of natural snowfall and artificial snowmaking systems allows for continuous maintenance of slopes in top condition. The mountain environment, fresh air, and stable weather make staying on Jahorina particularly pleasant during winter days,” the Olympic Center added.
They also highlight that this winter season brought a historic moment—after 42 years, the legendary ‘Olympic Downhill’ slope has been reopened to skiers.
“The reopening of this slope carries strong symbolism, as Jahorina, through modernization and new investments, simultaneously preserves its Olympic heritage. Fully prepared and safe, the slope is once again available to skiers and represents a blend of tradition and modern development of the mountain,” they explained.
They note that ski pass prices have not changed for three years, and that Jahorina is currently in the peak season, with all capacities operating at full intensity.
More than 50 ski days
From the Bjelašnica Olympic Center, they told Nezavisne that they are very satisfied with the winter season, which has already surpassed 50 ski days—something they say is rare in the region.
“We would especially like to highlight that we were the first in Bosnia and Herzegovina to open the ski season, confirming our operational readiness and management quality. Accommodation capacities on Bjelašnica and in its surroundings have been filled since mid-December, and interest from guests from the country and the region continues to grow,” they said.
They state that snow depth at the summit of Bjelašnica is around three meters, guaranteeing stable and long-lasting skiing conditions. They confirm that the price of a daily ski pass has been adjusted compared to last season, with the adult ticket priced at 59 KM.
“Prices have been adjusted, but only minimally and symbolically, given the significant rise in energy, maintenance, and other operational costs. Our goal remains to keep prices accessible while maintaining a high level of safety and service quality,” they said.
Winter idyll
Samer Dolovac, Director of the Travnik Tourist Organization, also told Nezavisne that the first twenty days of January brought a true winter idyll on Vlašić.
“The slopes are well prepared, and a large number of tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region are staying on Vlašić. Weekends are particularly busy, but weekdays as well, given that there was a school break in Bosnia and Herzegovina and across the region, resulting in noticeable tourist turnover. During the New Year holidays and the first ten days of January, there were many guests from Croatia, and now from Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to announcements, we expect a larger number of visitors from Serbia and Slovenia,” Dolovac said.
He hopes that late January and February will be good and that the slopes will remain ready for skiing.
“For now, it appears that this winter season could be excellent, but we will still wait to see what weather conditions bring. I believe one of the reasons for strong attendance is that Vlašić has not changed ski pass prices, and when you balance the offer Vlašić provides with the prices, it is at an optimal level,” he concluded.
