Bijeljina’s Marko Jevtić: The European Championship was my first major competition

For Marko Jevtić from Bijeljina, the European Championship marked the first major tournament of his career. The pivot of Spain’s Bidasoa Irun hopes for more significant playing time in upcoming national team campaigns with Serbia.

With strong performances in the Bidasoa jersey, Jevtić earned the status of the national team’s third pivot, behind captain Mijajlo Marsenić and Dragan Pešmalbek.

Although he did not log many minutes at the European Championship, the tournament in Herning was a valuable experience for the 24-year-old from Bijeljina.

Despite defeating Germany in the group stage, the Serbian handball team failed to advance to the main round, finishing the championship in 19th place. They now face a demanding playoff battle for qualification to the World Championship.

Jevtić is one of Bidasoa’s key defensive players. The former European champions have seen him improve his offensive attributes this season as well, and he recently extended his contract with the Basque club until 2028.

Jevtić took his first steps in handball at RK Bijeljina. Children from the club organized a ceremonial welcome for him at the hall of Vuk Karadžić Primary School.
