Stevandić extends Hanukkah greetings

Nenad Stevandić, President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, extended his greetings to Jewish communities in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of Hanukkah, wishing that the holiday of light continues to illuminate the path of the Jewish people in the years ahead.

Stevandić wished all Jewish families a peaceful and joyous celebration of Hanukkah, filled with prosperity and time spent with loved ones.

“May the days of light, celebrated in remembrance of the liberation of Jerusalem and the rededication of the Temple, guide the Jewish people in the years to come,” Stevandić said in his message.

Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights — also known as Hag HaUrim, the holiday of freedom and light — begins at sunset. The celebration lasts eight days, during which Jewish families light an eight-branched menorah with eight main candles and one helper candle.

The holiday commemorates the three-year struggle for liberation and the recapturing of Jerusalem in 165 BCE.
