Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, extended her congratulations to all Jews and Jewish communities in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of Hanukkah, wishing that the holiday serve as a reminder of the enduring values of freedom, hope, and unity.
“On the occasion of the great Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, I extend my sincere and heartfelt congratulations. I wish that this traditional festival of light, faith, and perseverance reminds us all of the lasting values of freedom, hope, and togetherness, and that the light of the Hanukkah candles brings warmth and encouragement for the future into your homes,” Cvijanović stated.
With sincere respect and best wishes, she wished everyone a joyful Hanukkah, the BiH Presidency announced.
Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights — also known as Hag HaUrim, the holiday of freedom and light — begins at sunset. The celebration lasts eight days, during which Jewish families light an eight-branched menorah with eight main candles and one helper candle.
The holiday commemorates the three-year struggle for liberation and the recapturing of Jerusalem in 165 BCE.
