Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković expressed satisfaction that cooperation between Republika Srpska and Croatia has intensified in recent years, with the goal of providing better living conditions for Croats in Srpska.
“Croats who live here are very important to us, and I am grateful that the authorities in Republika Srpska helped make this project a reality. I expect this cooperation to continue,” Plenković said at the opening of an exhibition of sacred art from the treasury of the Maria Zvijezda Abbey in Banja Luka.
He noted that the exhibition represents only a part of the continued support extended to Croats in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Plenković emphasized that Croatia is committed to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s interests and advocates for accelerating its path toward the European Union.
“We do this sincerely and wholeheartedly because we consider it our duty — just as we consider it our duty to work for a better life for all three constituent peoples in BiH, and especially to care for Croats, as this is our constitutional responsibility,” Plenković said.
Banja Luka Bishop Željko Majić said the exhibition showcases just a portion of the priceless sacred heritage collected by the historic Maria Zvijezda Abbey over many decades.
Majić thanked Plenković, noting that this is his third visit to Banja Luka since Majić took office as bishop, which he said speaks clearly about the support the Croat community in Republika Srpska receives from Croatia.
He also thanked Milorad Dodik, who as President of Republika Srpska had promised to help realize the exhibition — a promise he fulfilled.
“To all holders of public office at every level, I would like to remind you that you have a political responsibility to govern the country in a way that ensures citizens — regardless of their faith — live in unity, not merely alongside one another or, God forbid, against one another,” Majić said.
Earlier today, Plenković laid the foundation stone for the Cultural and Pastoral Student Center in Petrićevac, a project co-financed by the Croatian government.
Plenković: Important to reach an agreement on the Election Law
Prime Minister Plenković said he expects Bosnia and Herzegovina to reach an agreement on the Election Law and ensure equality for Croats alongside the other two constituent peoples.
He said it is essential to adhere to the letter and spirit of the Dayton Agreement.
“We believe that what was agreed must be respected, and I see no reason not to return to what is most important in life and politics — trust. When trust is missing, everything becomes more difficult,” Plenković said in Banja Luka, responding to a question about elections in BiH and the position of Croats.
He emphasized that trust enables progress, cooperation, work, development, and an honest partnership-based relationship.
According to him, the Croatian government allocates around 150 million euros annually for various projects and activities benefiting Croats outside Croatia.
