Film screening: Summer Hit at the Student Cultural Center

A screening of the Slovenian feature film Summer Hit will be held this evening, 4 December, at 18:00 in the Student Cultural Center in Banjaluka.

The film, directed by Metod Pevec and based on a 2008 screenplay by Feri Lainšček, won awards at the 2011 Slovenian Film Festival for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor. The story follows Tina, a young student with an exceptional singing voice who dreams of a music career. She leaves her studies and returns to her small hometown in Slovenia, where she confronts her mother’s expectations and unavoidable family conflicts.

Pevec was born in Ljubljana, where he studied philosophy and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. He began acting in the late 1970s, eventually taking on leading roles in several TV series and Slovenian and Yugoslav films. His collaboration with Serbian director Živojin Pavlović is considered especially significant. In the 1980s, he published his first short stories, screenplays, novels, and radio dramas. His directorial debut came in 1992 with the short film Everything Under Control, followed by his first feature film Carmen in 1995.

After the breakup of Yugoslavia, Pevec became one of the first directors to help revive Slovenia’s film industry. His films frequently explore the transition from socialism to neoliberal capitalism and its impact on society and individuals.

Following the screening, a discussion about the film will be held with Slovenian language lecturer Professor Barbara Hanuš.
