Actors Nada Blam, Dragana Mićalović, Irfan Mensur, and Lana Ađić performed the comedy Luda kuća Balkanska tonight in Prnjavor—one of the most-watched theatre productions in the region.
The well-known ensemble took to the stage of the Center for Culture and Tourism, telling the story of the Petrović family—an ordinary Serb household whose home turns into a “mad house” as family secrets and misunderstandings intertwine through a series of humorous yet relatable life situations.
Actor and director Irfan Mensur said that comedy is the most demanding genre, noting that it is not the actors’ job to make the audience laugh, but for each viewer to recognise themselves in parts of the performance.
“Acting is a serious profession. We must not try to make the audience laugh—we play the situations, and the audience must recognise themselves and laugh at themselves,” Mensur told Srna.
He added that as a director he has staged 37 plays in theatres in Belgrade, Niš, Zaječar, Vršac, Mostar, and other cities, and that every play is, in a way, a story about himself and his perception of theatre.
Actress Nada Blam, who has performed in Prnjavor in previous years, said the local audience is selective, appreciative, and culturally well-nurtured.
“The audience reactions are positive. I am very pleased with the play, which is highly relevant—it reflects our reality, the framework to which events in our lives attach, and shows a heightened sense of hope and expectation in striving for what is good,” she said.
The comedy Luda kuća Balkanska is one of many cultural events scheduled for December in Prnjavor.
The director of the Center for Culture and Tourism, Dunja Mazughi Pijlagiћ, announced that on Monday, 8 December, the audience will have the opportunity to see the docu-drama Patriarch Pavle: To Be a Man Among People and the Inhumane, written by Jovan Janjić and performed by Milan Malbaša and Aleksandar Dunjić.
“Through artistic expression, the Patriarch’s authentic words, his view of humanity, the meaning of life, and the struggle for peace in difficult times will be brought to life before the audience,” Pijlagić said.
The performance is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
