“Music for the Ears: New Sounds for Piano” concert in East Sarajevo

The contemporary piano concert “Music for the Ears /That Do Not Yet Hear/: New Sounds for Piano,” performed by pianist Bartolomej Stanković, will be held tomorrow at the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo.

Stanković, an associate professor at the Academy, will for the first time perform piano works by the Academy’s founder and first dean, Vojin Komadina—Microsonatas and March—as well as compositions by longtime composition professor Josip Magdić, including Rhythmic Expressions and Preludio Aleatorio.

The audience will also hear Magdić’s ensemble compositions Sound Spectra for piano four hands and Play and Clustering for piano six hands, performed together with piano students Karla Begić and Ivan Filipović.

The concert will present a series of East Sarajevo premieres, featuring works by contemporary composers Ališer Sijarić, Mladen Miličević, and Svjetlana Bukvić, as well as new pieces by Music Academy professors Dražan Kosorić and Valentina Dutina, the Academy announced.

The highlight of the program will be the performance of Concerto for Piano and Electronics by Croatian composer Frane Đurović, a piece that blends the acoustic sound of the piano with digital technology.

Stanković said the concert is an invitation for audiences to “open their ears to the avant-garde happening here and now” and to experience the possibilities of piano sound in a contemporary way.

The program serves as a prelude to the “Days of Vojin Komadina” event, which will take place in December.

Admission is free, and the concert begins at 19:11 in the chamber hall.
