Republika Srpska is expected to have a successful winter tourist season, with results projected to surpass previous years, according to on-the-ground information, said Sanela Šimun, spokesperson for the Tourism Organization of Republika Srpska.
She noted that the official opening of the winter tourist season is scheduled for 11 December on Jahorina, where numerous attractions will await visitors.
“In addition to Jahorina, we expect skiing at the Igrišta Ski Center, as well as on Kozara,” Šimun said.
She added that Republika Srpska also expects a large number of tourists during the upcoming New Year holidays.
According to her, most cities will organize open-air New Year’s Eve celebrations, as well as events in many hospitality venues.
“There are also New Year festivals taking place from late November until mid-January, where tourists can enjoy daytime programs, ice skating, various exhibitions, as well as good gastronomy and local products,” Šimun said.
She explained that the Tourism Organization of Republika Srpska is currently preparing a program for next year, which includes a series of activities, projects, and measures aimed at increasing the number of tourists and promoting Republika Srpska’s tourism offer on domestic and international markets.
“We are satisfied with the number of arrivals and overnight stays this year, which continue to grow year after year. In the first nine months, we recorded more than 16,500 additional overnight stays compared to the same period last year, and 17,835 more arrivals,” Šimun said.
She added that in the first nine months, Republika Srpska was visited by 393,266 tourists, who recorded 928,226 overnight stays — an increase of 4.4% in arrivals and 2% in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.
Šimun said that besides domestic tourists, most overnight stays were recorded by visitors from neighboring countries — Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro — as well as from other European countries such as Turkey, Germany, Austria, and Italy.
