Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac met today in Sarajevo with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat to discuss ways to enhance foreign trade and further strengthen economic cooperation.
During the meeting, Košarac and Bolat signed the Revised PEM Convention—the Decision on Amendments to the Regional Convention on Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Preferential Rules of Origin. The purpose of the Revised PEM Convention is to introduce more flexible and simplified rules for the movement of goods with preferential origin between the contracting parties, thereby increasing export competitiveness.
Both sides agreed that BiH and Türkiye are friendly countries with no open issues, and that there is significant room to deepen economic ties to the mutual benefit of both nations.
They also concluded that the Free Trade Agreement between BiH and Türkiye continues to function smoothly and without complications, while the Revised PEM Convention will further strengthen economic cooperation and promote greater connectivity among businesses.
Košarac and Bolat also discussed potential Turkish investments in free economic zones in Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, highlighting the interest of Turkish companies in investing and Türkiye’s readiness to share knowledge, experience, and best practices.
It was agreed that the next bilateral meeting will be held in Türkiye, and Košarac accepted Bolat’s invitation to jointly visit the country’s most developed free zones during that occasion.
Additionally, both ministers agreed that a trilateral meeting between BiH, Serbia, and Türkiye will be held in mid-January 2026 in Belgrade, noting that the gathering will be an excellent opportunity to present the Expo 2027 project and visit the construction site of the complex.
