The trial against President Milorad Dodik was conducted in violation of the Constitution, which is why it was expected that the Constitutional Court of BiH would reject the appeal filed by his defense against the verdict of the Court of BiH, said Željka Cvijanović, the Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Those who unconstitutionally initiated and led the proceedings against Dodik had to bring it to an end in the same unconstitutional manner. The appeal was an excellent opportunity for the judiciary to correct its course and move away from the deviation and political intent we’ve witnessed over the past two and a half years — and to finally act in accordance with the Constitution,” Cvijanović told Srna.
Speaking in Srna’s new podcast episode, Cvijanović said that the case can now proceed before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and expressed her expectation that the process would begin soon.
She emphasized that Republika Srpska today has — and will continue to gain — many international friends and partners who understand its desire to preserve a clear constitutional position within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Unlike 20 years ago, Republika Srpska now has many friends around the world with whom it can communicate. But unlike our Bosniak colleagues, we don’t do it to misuse anyone’s position or act against someone. We do it to achieve our sincere goals — peace, stability, and equal enjoyment of rights, so that we don’t have to fight every day just to exercise our constitutional rights,” Cvijanović stressed.
Cvijanović, who also serves as vice president of the SNSD, added that she is pleased that next year will bring salary and pension increases in Republika Srpska, along with a planned new cycle of investments.
