An exhibition titled “New Tower of Babel” has opened at the Cultural Center in Trebinje, showcasing the works of sculptors Magdalena Pavlović Ostojić, Vida Stanisavac, and Lena Jovanović. The exhibition will remain open to visitors until mid-November.
Metal, plaster, and other materials are united in this exhibition, which brings together three sculptors whose artistic expressions differ entirely in form and concept.
“They differ in terms of materials. Magdalena Pavlović Ostojić works with metal sculptures — even the drawings she presented are made on metal surfaces. Vida Stanisavac is perhaps the most classical among them, as she explores the human figure. Lena Jovanović bases her artistic practice on postmodernism,” said art historian and exhibition curator Ivona Fregl.
Artist Vida Stanisavac presented a work that reexamines the portrayal of the female nude and the way it reflects or influences society’s perception and standards regarding women.
“The initial idea was inspired by La Maja Desnuda — a naked woman showering in a contemporary bathroom, with the distortion of her body. From that concept emerged a series of photographs, photo collages, and sculptures,” explained Vida Stanisavac.
After taking part in the international art colony Lastva, artist Lena Jovanović said she wanted to return to Trebinje and present her work to the local audience.
“I was here for a symposium in Trebinje — Lastva, organized by Radmila — and it left me with wonderful memories. I wanted to come back to this city, and what better way than through an exhibition,” said Jovanović.
Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the exhibition “New Tower of Babel” at the Trebinje Cultural Center until mid-November.
