President Milorad Dodik told RTRS that the sanctions imposed on him and the Republic of Srpska were not just a political measure but a lasting injustice that weighed on all citizens of Srpska.
“When an injustice occurs, simply knowing that it is unjust makes a person feel uneasy,” Dodik said.
He noted that new people in the U.S. administration now understand the reality on the ground.
“I see this as a sign that new people have arrived — new sheriffs in America — who recognize the real situation and have realized how much of a problem it was that the U.S. was losing influence globally because of the inconsistent, poor, and decadent behavior of the previous administration,” Dodik stated.
The president emphasized that the United States remains a powerful country, whose renewed engagement in the region could restore its credibility if based on fairness and cooperation.
“What I want to contribute to is for that America — a strong and powerful country — to rehabilitate its strategic value in this region by being objective, not acting as a global policeman or executioner, but as a partner with whom cooperation is possible and necessary,” he explained.
Dodik said he does not feel triumphant about the lifting of sanctions but sees it as a small measure of justice.
“I don’t feel victorious about this. Enormous damage has been done to Republika Srpska. But if there is any small satisfaction, it is that the sanctions have been lifted — something we knew would happen one day. And that day has come. I thank all those who contributed, and I thank President Trump — he says what he means, and our case proves that he acts accordingly,” Dodik concluded.
