Members of the Banja Luka Kung Fu Wushu Club “Lotos”, Igor Petrović and Mihailo Đumić, won gold medals at the European Junior Championship recently held in Montesilvano, Italy. The athletes from Lotos also represented the Shuai Jiao Team of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Chinese wrestling).
Petrović triumphed in the under-80 kg category, while Đumić claimed gold in the under-65 kg category. Coach Dragan Đumić said Petrović faced a tougher path despite having one fight less than Mihailo.
“Mihailo had a demanding match against his old rival from Germany, which turned out to be his hardest bout. This is an outstanding achievement. Next, we begin preparations for the World Championship to be held next year in Italy. We were supported by other club members who helped greatly with technical tasks, especially opponent scouting,” Đumić said.
Earlier this year, members of the Shuai Jiao national team of BiH, composed of athletes from Lotos, achieved remarkable success at the European Cup held in June in North Macedonia, winning five gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, along with one fourth-place finish.
Gold medals were won by Mihailo and Mile Đumić, Lea Vujasin, Marija Palić, and Dane Marjanović, while Igor Petrović took silver, Matej Marković bronze, and David Menićanin finished fourth.
