Winter delights on the horizon

Mountains across Bosnia and Herzegovina are awaiting the first snowflakes as the new winter season approaches.

According to current data, guests have already booked a large number of accommodations, especially for the holiday period.

Jahorina ready for the first skiers

Preparations for the new season on Jahorina are in their final stage, and the Olympic Center Jahorina told “Nezavisne novine” that they expect lower temperatures soon in order to activate the SnowFactory system, which enables snow production even at above-zero temperatures.

“This allows us to store snow that will later be distributed across the slopes, ensuring ideal conditions for the first skiers. In short — we are fully prepared and waiting for the first snowflakes,” they said, noting that the pre-sale of ski passes has been completed and has attracted great interest this year.

They also noted that ticket prices have not increased for the past three years.

“With the aim of making skiing more affordable for families, we raised the age limit for children’s ski passes from 12 to 14, and replaced the traditional half-day ticket with a more practical four-hour ticket, offering greater flexibility for skiers. Prices on Jahorina will continue to adjust depending on slope conditions,” they emphasized, adding that special discounts for family passes will be launched in November, while pre-sale for the Igrišta ski center will run from October 25 to November 10.

They say they have every reason to expect a successful winter season, promising visitors a blend of sports, entertainment, and mountain magic.

“In addition to daytime and night skiing on excellently maintained slopes, visitors can enjoy a rich program and activities that turn every stay into a unique experience. For those seeking something new, Jahorina offers sledding, ski-biking, and unforgettable snow groomer rides at sunrise or sunset. A special attraction is the VIP gondola, which offers a luxurious experience and panoramic views of the entire mountain — perfect for couples, friends, or special moments you want to remember forever,” the Olympic Center Jahorina said.

Strong demand on Bjelašnica and Igman

Optimism is also high at the Olympic Center Bjelašnica, where accommodation on Bjelašnica and Igman has already been significantly booked, especially for New Year’s and throughout January.

“This clearly shows strong market interest and that many are planning their winter holiday on our mountains,” they said, adding that they expect this season to surpass the previous one in visitor numbers.

They also confirmed that the Kotlovi ski lift will be operational at the very start of the season.

“In September, we launched our traditional pre-sale of seasonal ski passes. As always, our loyalty users are the first priority, enjoying special benefits and the best prices. The first sales cycle has ended, while the second — lasting until November 15 — is now underway. Compared to last year, we have introduced a slight price increase due to higher energy and maintenance costs, but we have worked to maintain a balance between affordability and quality,” they stated.

They noted that visitors can expect groomed slopes, modern night skiing, new offers for recreational skiers and families, and excellent conditions for all winter sports enthusiasts.

Stable prices on Vlašić

Hopes for a strong winter season are high on Vlašić as well. Samer Dolovac, director of the Tourist Board of Travnik Municipality, said that positive indicators already came from the strong late-summer season.

“Preparations are underway — maintenance of vertical transport and ski lifts. Ski pass prices will remain very similar to last year, and if there are any increases, they will be minimal,” Dolovac told “Nezavisne novine”.

He added that accommodation capacities for the “Šankanje” event are already highly booked.

“We expect a good winter season, depending of course on snowfall and low temperatures. As we approach the season, especially with the first major snow expected in late November or early December, we will have a clearer picture. Those will be the main indicators for the winter ahead,” he said.
