Vučević: The National Assembly is a symbol of the Serb people’s will

The envoy of the President of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, said during the ceremonial academy of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska that it was a great honor for him to attend this jubilee, conveying greetings on behalf of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Vučević emphasized that marking the anniversary of the establishment of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska also represents the anniversary of the formation of legitimate and sovereign authority — the political will of the Serb people in the former BiH.

“Since the earliest forms of state organization, even before the Middle Ages, Serbs have always had a sabor — a place and a moment to gather and decide what is best for the people and the state; how to honor the legacy of those who built our homeland, and how to work for those who will come after us,” Vučević said.

He noted that the term sabor remains appropriate today, pointing to the fact that the Serbian Orthodox Church still uses it when making its most important decisions.

“From the sabor came today’s assembly, with a similar function — gathering the most prominent individuals to seek solutions in the interest of the state and the nation. Even when we did not have a free state, church–national sabors were held, uniting diverse people with shared goals and faith — a faith that has sustained us to this day,” he stressed.

Recalling the tragic history of the Serb people, he asked how survival was even possible without faith:

“How else can we explain that we survived Jasenovac, Stara Gradiška, Jadovno, Jastrebarsko, Đakovo, Danica, Sisak… the pits and the martyrdom of Prebilovci, the suffering in Šargovići, Drakulić, Motike, the massacre in Jajce, Garavice, Stari Brod… the death of the Banja Luka babies, and so many other atrocities?”

Vučević said that despite repeated attempts to eliminate the Serb people physically and ideologically, they have endured:

“For a long time now, according to the plans of many, we were not supposed to exist — yet we are still here.”

He reminded those present of their duty:

“Anyone who speaks in our sabor must be aware of the responsibility they carry. Ignorance can lead the people into the hands of those who claim history belongs only to historians.”

Speaking of current responsibilities, Vučević said the Assembly was created in decisive moments for the survival of the Serb people:

“It was established to provide legality and legitimacy to Republika Srpska. Its role is defense — and every objective must serve that purpose.”

He told the officials that their work is being watched by the generations who built Republika Srpska:

“When you step onto the assembly floor, you stand on a beacon of freedom. Remember Manjača, the Petrovac Road, Leotar and Trebević — and the dreams of those who came before us.”

Vučević concluded with a message of unity and belief:

“Be as innocent as doves and as wise as serpents — and spirit and love will prevail. Be united and believe in Srpska, and she will triumph. Long live Srpska, long live eternal Serbia, and may the entire Serb people live in peace and prosperity.”
