Republika Srpska was created by those who survived — those who were not expelled, not killed, not converted, and who withstood the greatest persecutions and crimes in this region, said Nenad Stevandić, President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.
“The Serb people endured Ottoman, fascist, and Austro-Hungarian crimes, remaining unbroken — inscribed both as victims and heroes — and welcomed Republika Srpska as God’s justice,” Stevandić stated at the ceremonial academy of the National Assembly.
He emphasized that it is a duty and responsibility to ensure that freedom — Republika Srpska — has no end.
“That freedom must outlive all of us here today, as well as our descendants. The challenges ahead are not the first, and certainly not the last, in the future of Republika Srpska,” he said.
Stevandić added that the mission must be fulfilled courageously and honorably — even in difficult historical circumstances.
The National Assembly of Republika Srpska was founded on October 24, 1991, as the Assembly of the Serb People in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a decision made by MPs elected in the autumn 1990 elections.
