More than 500 children from Lopare, Ugljevik, and Bijeljina spent the weekend at the “Busija” tourist complex on Majevica, taking part in the “Children of the Mountain Rescue Service” camp, where they learned about nature, survival skills, and teamwork.
The camp was organized by the Mountain Rescue Service – Bijeljina Station, whose head, Nenad Jovanović, said that participants practiced basic survival techniques such as setting up a camp, navigation, and knot tying, while divers from the “Panteri” Diving Club demonstrated professional diving equipment at the nearby lake.
“A search-and-rescue dog also performed a live demonstration of locating missing persons in the wild. The children spent a wonderful weekend in nature with the Mountain Rescue Service, the Red Cross, and our partners,” said Jovanović.
He thanked Svetozar Ostojić Ćeko, owner of Green Hills, for providing the complex free of charge, and expressed gratitude to the municipalities of Lopare and Ugljevik, which were this year’s main sponsors, according to the Lopare Municipality.
Lopare Mayor Rado Savić noted that Busija is becoming a popular spot for people of all ages:
“Today it’s filled with children, and that’s a beautiful story. In the next few years, this will grow into a full-fledged tourism and recreation center for this part of Republika Srpska and the Majevica region.”
Ugljevik Mayor Dragan Gajić also voiced support for the initiative, praising its educational and social value:
“We all know that we live in a digital world where children spend much of their time in front of screens. This camp helps them reconnect with nature — and that’s what matters most today.”
