“I’m very pleased that sanctions have been lifted for four individuals — all of whom were targeted simply because they took part in organizing the celebration of January 9th. I hope that the new administration of President Donald Trump will understand that these were purely political sanctions imposed by the Biden administration without a single legitimate reason,” said Darko Banjac, president of the Democratic People’s Alliance (DNS).
Banjac announced that two special sessions of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska will be held tomorrow.
“One session concerns the appointment of the acting president of Republika Srpska, which is entirely natural because the National Assembly expresses the will of the citizens of Srpska,” he explained.
He added that members of the National Assembly, like the president of Republika Srpska, are directly elected by the citizens, and therefore have the constitutional legitimacy and strength to make such decisions.
“It is logical that only the National Assembly, through its elected representatives, has that authority,” Banjac said.
As for the second session, he noted that the agenda will include certain laws annulled by constitutional courts within Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska.
“This is being done primarily to stabilize Republika Srpska in a new political era — to protect itself and its constitutional competences, but also to strengthen ties with friends abroad,” Banjac emphasized.
He added that Republika Srpska already has strong and loyal friends among many world leaders and countries, and that this moment will help expand that network of partnerships even further.
