The “Guber” Nature Park has been officially placed under protection, preserving the biological, landscape, hydrogeological and geomorphological values of this unique area near Srebrenica.
The decision follows an initiative by the Municipality of Srebrenica, which proposed to the Ministry for Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology that the area “Banja Guber and its surroundings” be declared a protected natural site.
Covering 571.78 hectares, the park includes second and third-degree protection zones. The majority of the area is composed of natural beech and sessile oak forests, while smaller sections contain artificial stands of white and black pine. The region is rich in geodiversity and boasts over 40 mineral water springs, including Crni Guber, Mali Guber, Velika Kiselica, and Očna voda. The highest peak, Kvarac, rises to 1,013 meters above sea level.
The protected area will allow for recreation, health tourism, education, and scientific research, while ensuring the conservation of its natural values. The site will be managed by Public Enterprise “Šume Republike Srpske”, through the Forest Management Unit “Drina” Srebrenica.
With this designation, the total area of protected natural sites in Republika Srpska has increased to 73,596.26 hectares, or 2.98% of the entity’s territory — marking a significant step in safeguarding natural and cultural heritage and improving the overall quality of the environment.
