Raković: It is important that Republika Srpska’s position on the situation in BiH will be heard in New York

Historian Aleksandar Raković told SRNA that it is highly significant that Russia will present the Republika Srpska report at the upcoming UN Security Council session on Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of October, allowing Srpska’s position to be clearly heard in this top UN body.

Raković emphasized that this move represents “a new confirmation of the deep ties between the Serb and Russian peoples.”

“It is important that Republika Srpska will be represented in this way and that the Security Council member states will hear its position. The report will ultimately become a public document accessible to everyone,” Raković said.

He also warned that Republika Srpska faces opposition from some permanent members of the UN Security Council, particularly the United Kingdom and France, but stressed that the report’s inclusion on the agenda is a key step forward.

“It is crucial that this issue reaches that forum. It will bear fruit eventually — when exactly, we cannot predict,” he added.

“Republika Srpska is a question for all Serbs”

Discussing the current situation in Srpska, Raković expressed confidence that it will overcome the political and institutional pressures imposed upon it, noting that all Serbs form a single political nation.

“The question of Republika Srpska is a question for all Serbs. I am confident we will prevail. As a nation, we are forged through great challenges — and this is one of them. There can be no great victory without great struggle,” Raković said.

“Russia sees Serbs as friends and brothers”

Raković underlined that Russia regards Republika Srpska, Serbia, and the Serb people as friends and brothers, a sentiment reaffirmed at this year’s Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi, where President Vladimir Putin met with President Milorad Dodik to discuss key regional issues, including Dodik’s proposal to establish a joint U.S.–Russia commission for the Balkans.

“Putin’s attention to Republika Srpska and his meeting with Dodik — where they discussed Srpska and the proposed joint commission — are of great importance,” Raković noted.

He also revealed that during his own exchange with President Putin, the Russian leader was explicit in saying that certain Western power centers were behind attempts to stage a color revolution in Serbia.

“Putin sent a sincere and friendly message to Serbian youth — many of whom were unaware they had been drawn into networks working against Serbia. If they did not believe President Vučić, Putin made it perfectly clear what was happening,” Raković said.

Raković concluded that both his question and Putin’s response were expressed diplomatically, without attacking individuals who took part in protests, but rather focusing on the broader geopolitical reality and the manipulation of public sentiment by foreign actors.
