Dodik: EU is in crisis and can no longer deal with the region – USA and Russia should form a Balkan Commission

The European Union no longer has the capacity to effectively address issues in the Balkans, and everything it has done in the region so far has been a mistake, said President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, emphasizing that the United States and Russia should jointly establish a commission for the Balkans — an idea he recently discussed with Vladimir Putin in Sochi.

According to Dodik, it has become increasingly clear that European countries cannot solve even their own problems, let alone those of others. He argued that the accumulated regional issues could be resolved through a U.S.-Russia initiative, suggesting that Hungary should lead such a commission.

“Hungary understands the situation here, Moscow does as well, and the new administration in Washington is showing growing understanding. Forget about the French, the Germans, and the rest in Brussels,” Dodik stated.

He added that the Dayton Peace Agreement was politically destroyed by “Muslim politicians together with failed European administrations, under the mentorship of the Biden administration.”

“We accept the idea that Russia and America, as global powers, form a Balkan Commission that would address regional issues — including ours,” Dodik said.

Russia supports the proposal

Russian Ambassador to BiH Igor Kalabukhov agreed that such a commission could become a serious mechanism for dialogue between Moscow and Washington, noting that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains a particularly important issue.

“This could be a valuable mechanism because the question of BiH is crucial for implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement. We see that, even after 30 years, many problems have been created by the West — primarily by the illegitimate Schmidt,” Kalabukhov said.

A changing world order

Analysts argue that the Western model imposed on the Balkans is collapsing, while other world powers are becoming dominant global players. The proposed U.S.–Russia Commission could help resolve regional conflicts and reshape international relations in the Balkans.

“Republika Srpska and Serbia must step forward into this new global order. I see President Dodik’s initiative, raised with President Putin, as a step toward solving not only the Serb question but also the broader structure of the Balkans,” said Srđan Perišić, professor of geopolitics.

Historian Aleksandar Raković added that once the proposal is formally presented — at least through Russia, if not directly by Republika Srpska — it could open space for constructive reflection in certain circles in Washington.

He noted, however, that reasonable voices are absent in Brussels, especially evident in the case of BiH and the EU’s continued support for Christian Schmidt, whose imposed decisions, he said, demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the situation in the region.
