McEwen: Srpska and Dodik under enormous pressure, time to return to the original Dayton

Republika Srpska and its President Milorad Dodik are making great sacrifices in resisting illegitimate and undemocratic attacks, said former U.S. Congressman Bob McEwen.

In an interview conducted in Washington by Denis Bojić, director of the Republika Srpska Memorial Center, in cooperation with the Srpska Representative Office, McEwen spoke about Republika Srpska, President Dodik, the Serb people, and the return of Donald Trump to the American political stage.

McEwen expressed hope that the new U.S. administration will change its approach toward Republika Srpska and the Serb people.

“Republika Srpska is a beacon of hope for the Balkans,” said McEwen, one of today’s most influential conservative leaders. “The pressures faced by Srpska and its President Milorad Dodik are enormous, and it is time to finally return to the original Dayton Agreement.”

“Mr. Dodik is a leader, and socialist groups don’t like leaders, so they tried to isolate him. I admire the sacrifice he has made, and I believe that in the coming years we will begin restoring what was lost. The High Representative was never confirmed. My heart is with the sacrifice made by Mr. Dodik and by Republika Srpska,” McEwen said.

He emphasized that the struggle led by Republika Srpska and Dodik is similar to that of Donald Trump, with identical methods of persecution and the same objectives. “When you can’t defeat a policy, you resort to all other undemocratic means,” McEwen noted.

“Republika Srpska depends on strong and attentive United States. I see that change coming. We have a new Secretary of State. The High Representative, by acting beyond his mandate, has created problems for freedom and for Srpska. It is high time to see these things change, and I am optimistic they will,” McEwen stated.

He added that the United States, Republika Srpska, and the Serb people share a common struggle for true values—a struggle embodied by Trump’s slain associate, Charlie Kirk, who was a close friend of McEwen.

“Serbia has always been strong in its devotion to faith. This is a battle for truth. It is the same battle faced by the United States, by Serbia, and by Srpska. I am excited about the renewal of Srpska. But look at those people in Brussels—they are old school. I believe Donald Trump and then the United States are leading a renewal that will be great for Serbia and for Srpska,” he added.

The United States and especially Europe have lacked true leadership over the past four years, McEwen argued. That is why, he said, Trump’s return to the White House is crucial. According to him, everyone has recognized the benefits of this, and the world is becoming a better place every day.
