The Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, stated today in Banja Luka that the Serb people are not against the constitution of the Bosniaks as a nation, but they are against that process being tied to the destruction and abolition of Republika Srpska.
Stevandić emphasized that such processes will not stabilize the region and expressed hope for political maturity in Sarajevo.
“They are clearly more interested in conflicts, and this serves as a convenient alibi,” Stevandić told reporters after the session of the Joint Commission of the National Assembly and the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska, where no consensus was reached regarding the Bosniak veto on the Law on Amendments to the Law on Referendum and Citizens’ Initiative and the scheduling of the republican referendum.
Since the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska will decide on this matter, Stevandić stressed that the arguments are on the side of those who adopted these acts.
He explained that the referendum question does not alter the verdict but expresses an opinion about it, which represents a fundamental democratic right of every individual and nation.
“Violating these rights is either Nazism or apartheid—there is no gentler term,” Stevandić assessed.
He claimed that members from all constituent peoples will be represented in the commission for conducting the referendum.
The Joint Commission of the National Assembly and the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska failed to reach an agreement on initiating the procedure for protection of the vital national interest of the Bosniaks concerning the decision to call a republican referendum and the decision on its immediate entry into force, leaving the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska to decide.
No consensus was reached either regarding the Bosniak vital national interest veto on the Law on Amendments to the Law on Referendum and Citizens’ Initiative and its immediate application.
On August 22, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted the decision to call a referendum in response to the verdict of the unconstitutional Court of BiH against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and the decision of the Central Election Commission of BiH to revoke Dodik’s mandate, scheduling the referendum for October 25.
Stevandić: Malice is the goal behind the move to invoke vital national interest in the government formation
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, said that the motive behind the announced possibility of invoking the protection of vital national interest regarding the election of the new government of Republika Srpska is malice rather than law, reiterating that the nomination of the prime minister-designate for the new government was legally valid.
“Malice destroys our mutual bridges. Even if Schmidt, Bećirović, or the Bosniak Club alone held power and there were no institutions of Republika Srpska, the nomination of the prime minister-designate would still be valid and legally binding, because Milorad Dodik and his lawyer had not received any official notification beforehand,” Stevandić said.
He added that the National Assembly of Republika Srpska had also not received any act during the process of appointing the prime minister-designate.
“This is incredible malice and spite, showing that they do not want anything to do with a Republika Srpska that is equal, but only with one that is endangered and subjected to constant pressure,” Stevandić stressed in Banja Luka.
He emphasized that the illegitimate Christian Schmidt cannot dismiss the legitimate President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
The head of the Bosniak Club in the Council of Peoples, Alija Tabaković, said today that within the next three to four days the club will decide whether to initiate protection of the vital national interest concerning the election of the government of Republika Srpska.
