The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, met in Budapest with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. Hungary’s top diplomat gave unequivocal support to the legitimately elected president of Republika Srpska and stressed that only the people of Srpska have the right to decide who should lead Republika Srpska. President Dodik, expressing gratitude to Szijjártó for Hungary’s position, warned that any imposition will lead to Srpska’s independence.
Once again, support from Hungary arrives—for Republika Srpska, its institutions, and its future moves. Hungary respects the will of the people who elected their leaders democratically and supports those officials. That is the case with the President of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, Szijjártó made clear.
“We see that in Republika Srpska a witch hunt is being conducted, orchestrated from abroad. This is a sad phenomenon in Europe—to remove patriotic sovereign leaders. It is important in such a situation to support the leaders chosen by the people. We must not allow this to happen in Europe, as it is very dangerous for Europe’s future,” said Szijjártó.
President Dodik expressed gratitude for Hungary’s stance, noting that official Budapest does not take sides but listens to Republika Srpska. He reminded that Srpska is a party to the Dayton Agreement, which, he stressed, has been undermined by Brussels and the Biden administration. According to Dodik, the sanctions imposed by the former American administration in BiH must end, as must the role of the OHR after thirty years.
“Minister, I informed you that the German citizen Christian Schmidt came to seize property and all mineral resources, and we will oppose this. If things go unfavorably for us, we will very quickly make a decision on the independence of Republika Srpska. We are forced into this as a reaction to the injustice that is persistently imposed on Republika Srpska and the Serb people in the Balkans,” Dodik said.
Hungary’s support also extends to the upcoming referendum on the decisions of the illegitimate Schmidt and the unconstitutional Court of BiH. Szijjártó was explicit: Hungary will always respect the decisions of nations regarding their future and their leaders.
“Not from Brussels, not from Budapest, should it be said. Who should lead Republika Srpska? The people of Republika Srpska must say that. What the future of Republika Srpska will be—we will not decide that from Budapest, nor from Brussels or Berlin. That will be decided by the people in Banja Luka, in Republika Srpska,” stated Szijjártó.
Dodik said that Srpska is under occupation—Brussels tolerates the abolition of democracy in BiH. He emphasized that the last person in Europe to impose laws was Hitler, and today it is Schmidt. On the basis of these imposed decisions, a court was formed and verdicts delivered. As another example of occupation, he cited EUFOR forces, which serve foreign interests and manifest their presence with constant parades in Srpska.
“Minister, I am proud of our cooperation. Very proud. You came at a time when we are living under occupation, under injustice, branded as the bad guys. We will fight for an independent Republika Srpska, whether Ursula von der Leyen likes it or not. I look forward to cooperation between our Republic and Hungary. We will continue to work on joint projects. We support the political thinking coming from Hungary,” Dodik added.
Hungary is a friend of Republika Srpska, and Srpska is undoubtedly a friend of Hungary, Dodik concluded. That the cooperation is based on mutual respect was also confirmed by Szijjártó, who stressed that this kind of partnership has always been successful between Hungary and Republika Srpska, and should be further strengthened in the future.
