Dodik: Thank you for Hungary’s position

President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik expressed gratitude for Hungary’s position, stating that Republika Srpska will very soon make a decision on independence.

“I am grateful to Hungary for its attention. You are not cheering for anyone, you are listening,” Dodik said at a press conference in Budapest with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

He stressed that without Hungary’s attention and understanding, the problems would be even greater.

“I informed Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó that German citizen Christian Schmidt came to seize property and all natural resources, something Republika Srpska will oppose,” Dodik said, adding that if developments take an unfavorable course, “we will very soon make a decision on the independence of Republika Srpska.”

He emphasized that this would be a forced reaction to the injustice persistently imposed on Republika Srpska and the Serb people in the Balkans.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of problems, a case country, and it has been so from the beginning. By the will of certain administrations in distant offices—the American administration at the time—we were given BiH as a product that had no real basis to survive or to function. Instead, we were given problems that were generated from the outset,” Dodik said.

He underlined that Republika Srpska is a party to the Dayton Agreement, which it has been defending for years, but that both the Brussels and Biden administrations have dismantled it.

“There is an attempt through the courts to overthrow democratically elected leaders. That shows that a powerful structure in Europe is prepared to go all the way,” Dodik stated.

According to him, Republika Srpska is under occupation, with Brussels tolerating the abolition of democracy in BiH.

“In conversations with you, I expressed my opinion and I thank you for your position. That is a clear position, and it is not new. It is evident that the courts are being used worldwide to politically secure the ‘death’ of democratically elected leaders. That was done with Trump, with Bolsonaro, and here in Europe. We can also see the latest developments in the Czech Republic—such pressure shows that a strong structure in Europe is prepared to go to the end,” Dodik said.

He added that even Hungary is being targeted for having democratically elected leadership.

“We are closely following what is happening. We are grateful for your firmness of position, because I believe that any concession would only lead us to an even greater defeat. That Brussels administration is ignoring problems and what needs to be done. After 30 years, the role of the OHR must end—it was always intended as a temporary body for one year. The OHR was conceived as lasting one year, yet it has remained for 30,” Dodik concluded.
