The manifestation “Željko Grujić Days” begins this evening in Pale in memory of the poet, essayist, literary critic, and journalist.
At the Cultural Center in Pale, a literary and musical evening dedicated to Grujić was held last night, featuring the promotion of his novel “Mljetovanje”, posthumously published by the National Library.
A musical program is also planned, announced the National Library of Pale, one of the event’s organizers.
Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., a memorial service for Željko Grujić will be held in the Church of St. Archangel Gabriel in Pale. At 11:00 a.m., a roundtable on Grujić’s literary work and his contribution to literature and culture will take place at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale.
“We invite everyone to attend this event and join us in celebrating the work and life of our dear friend and colleague, preserving the memory of his exceptional contribution to our cultural heritage,” the National Library of Pale stated.
Željko Grujić was born in Sarajevo in 1961. From the beginning of the war, he worked as a journalist at SRNA, and from 1994 to 1997 he served as the agency’s editor-in-chief.
In the early 2000s, Grujić withdrew from journalism, and in 2004 he continued his professional work at the National Library in Pale, where he launched the Local Collection Department, considered one of the best in Republika Srpska.
He was a member of the Association of Writers of Republika Srpska.
Grujić published poetry collections “Sonnets of Condolence”, “Roses of Jericho”, “Shame and Moonlight”, as well as a book of journalistic essays “Cross-Bearers and Sisyphuses.” His last book, “A Weak Word Killed Me”, was published by the National Library of East Sarajevo.
At the Sarajevo Poetry Days in 2001, he received the award “Poet – Witness of Time” for his collection “Roses of Jericho”, which was also named the best poetry book in Republika Srpska published in 2000.
At the “Vidovdan Poetry Meetings” in Sokolac in 2018, Grujić was awarded the “Vidovdan Charter” for his collection “Shame and Moonlight.”
Grujić passed away on September 3, 2022, in Pale, at the age of 61.
The manifestation “Željko Grujić Days” is organized by the National Library of Pale and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of East Sarajevo.
