This past weekend, Banja Luka was the center of chess, hosting numerous young talents from Srpska, BiH, and across the region. The two-day event, which brought together tradition, knowledge, and youth, once again met expectations and confirmed its status as one of the most significant chess gatherings in the region. Three competitions (team, blitz, and individual) and a total of ten tournaments broke all records, with as many as 436 participants.
In the team category up to 10 years, first place went to ŠK “Križevci” from Križevci, second to ŠK “Velemajstor” from Brčko, while third place was taken by ŠK “Gambit 6” from Banja Luka.
Among players up to 14 years, the winners were ŠK “Damin Gambit” from Osijek, followed by ŠK “Gambit 3” from Banja Luka and ŠK “Gambit 4” from Banja Luka.
In the U20 category, first place went to ŠŠ “Matematička Gimnazija” from Belgrade, second to OŠK “9. Januar” from Foča, and third to ŠK “Petefi Šandor” from Skorenovac.

On the second day, six individual tournaments were held (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, and U20), where young chess players demonstrated remarkable skill, persistence, and passion for the game.
Participants emphasized that results were secondary—the friendships, experiences, and memories gained were what mattered most.
This jubilee year introduced innovations: live broadcasting of matches and the use of VAR technology in chess, allowing parents, coaches, and followers to watch games in real time from a separate hall.
ŠK “Gambit” Banja Luka proudly highlighted that this year’s festival brought together 436 participants from over 30 towns and municipalities across Srpska, BiH, and the region—an absolute record and proof of the tournament’s growing importance and quality.
The festival was supported by institutions, club partners, and the media, with special gratitude expressed to the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, patron of this year’s event.
