HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović stated that he will not run for the Croat member of the BiH Presidency in the next elections, expressing hope that Bosniaks will stop the practice of outvoting Croats.
“Certainly not. I wasn’t a candidate the last time either. Just so there are no speculations about that,” Čović told Radiotelevision Herceg-Bosna, responding to a question about a possible candidacy in the general elections scheduled for October next year.
He said that the Election Law is “waiting for the moment when enough colleagues from the Bosniak people will be ready to admit that it is not right for Croats to have their Presidency member chosen for them, and that this issue will then be resolved in a practical way.”
Čović added that he insists on electoral reform because he believes that amending the Constitution is not realistic.
He emphasized that strengthening cooperation between Bosniaks and Croats is important for stabilizing relations in BiH.
