Wreaths were laid at the grave of Petar Kočić in the Alley of the Greats at the New Cemetery in Belgrade, followed by poetry recitations in front of his monument in Čubura Park, as part of the “Kočić’s Day in Belgrade” commemoration, held within the program of the 60th Kočić Gathering.
Tonight’s program also includes a literary evening titled “Zmijanje in Belgrade, Srpska in Serbia.”
Writers from Republika Srpska attended the event, emphasizing the duty to pass on Kočić’s works to new generations.
“It is important to preserve this culture of remembrance. It is essential to hold forums where people can learn about Kočić’s literary legacy, not only on this day but also through encounters with the works of many other great figures, especially from this region,” said Neda Gavrić, a poet from Banja Luka.
Jovanka Stojčinović Nikolić, a poet from Doboj, noted that Kočić’s voice is still heard today.
“We still hear those cries from Zmijanje. In the past, they were provoked by others, like Austria-Hungary, and today we hear them among ourselves. That must not happen—love must always prevail,” Stojčinović Nikolić stressed.
