Seven days after the women’s team began training, Borac’s men’s volleyball team has also started preparations.
Coach Mišo Marjanović welcomed 16 players at the first gathering, including three newcomers: libero Đorđe Brborić (from Ljubinje), experienced middle blocker Ivan Lečić (Kulpin), and outside hitter Nemanja Milićević (Radnik). The team parted ways with libero and captain Borko Ilić and Ukrainian setter Maksym Donets. Once again, the “red and blue,” this time with an average age of 19, will be the youngest squad in the Premier League.
“We will try to bring in another setter, we’ll see how that develops. As for the goal this season, it is to remain in the elite league. Since we are the youngest, we have to work harder than anyone else, and that work will bring us closer to achieving our goals. I’m also following what the competition is doing. Other teams have strengthened well, so we expect a big fight, but we’ll be ready,” said Marjanović.
The young coach and his players will undergo two training sessions per day.
“We’ll train in the hall, alternating between ‘Borik’ and ‘Centar,’ with mandatory gym work. After building our base, we’ll focus on preparation matches. The idea is to play at least two or three test games before the ‘Limun Papić’ Memorial in the second half of September. This year, the memorial will last one day, with four teams playing two matches, which I think is optimal. The championship begins the first weekend of October. The schedule is not out yet, but we will do everything in our power to be fully ready,” Marjanović added.
The new captain is Vladan Ajder, a Borac homegrown player, who plays opposite.
“It’s a great honor for me. I thank coach Marjanović for the trust. As always, I will give my best to help my teammates both on and off the court,” Ajder said.
Bosnia and Herzegovina
This summer, Marjanović coached the Bosnia and Herzegovina cadet national team at the Balkan Championship in Banja Luka.
“It was a big experience for the boys and for me personally. We achieved a lot even with the initial training camp. We activated 50 boys from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, involving every club. We moved from a dead point, and that is a success for volleyball in BiH,” Marjanović concluded.
