The lecture “Momo Kapor and My Sentimental Education” and a literary evening with Branko Rosić were held as part of the second night of the Book Fair in East Sarajevo.
Darko Kovačević, professor of English at the University of East Sarajevo, delivered a lecture on the influence of Momo Kapor on “sentimental education,” reminding the audience of the significance of Kapor’s works in his life, with particular emphasis on the novel Una, which has remained a lasting part of his cultural and emotional formation.
“Sentimental education is a term that Momo Kapor introduced into common speech, and it implies a set of cultural influences absorbed from literature that later find practical application in one’s real life,” Kovačević explained.
Belgrade writer, publicist, and longtime journalist Branko Rosić presented reflections on his three novels: And It Started So Well, They Announce Clear Skies for Tomorrow, and The Arrival of the Matador.
Rosić emphasized that his protagonists are often a reflection of his own inner resistances, such as opposition to the corporate system, and noted that his journalistic experience helped him delve deeper into reality and translate it into literary expression.
“In a novel, anyone can do what they dare not in real life,” Rosić said, adding that he has always sought for his literature to be socially engaged, but without slipping into pamphleteering.
Nataša Kulašinac, director of the Main Library of East Sarajevo, highlighted the importance of such events for the city’s cultural life.
“We believe the audience will enjoy tonight’s program. It is an honor for us, on behalf of the Main Library and the municipality of East Novo Sarajevo as the organizer, to host these two remarkable men,” Kulašinac said.
The Book Fair is being held outdoors in East Novo Sarajevo and will run until Thursday evening, with organizers announcing a rich program of events each night.
