The classical music festival “Kustendorf Classic” will take place from September 4 to 6 in the ethno-village Mećavnik on Mokra Gora, organizers announced.
In the competition section, young musicians from Serbia, Russia, and Belarus will perform, while the winners of the “Golden Matryoshka” award will be chosen by an international jury.
The jury includes Mikhail Golikov, artistic director of the State Symphony Orchestra of the Leningrad Region, Zoran Krajisnik, dean of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, and Dušana Knežević, professor of piano and chamber music at the CRD Arcueil-Cachan Conservatory in France.
Evening concerts will feature Russian-Armenian pianist Eva Gevorgyan, the piano trio “Korda,” Russian mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, violinist Uroš Adamović, and the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defense “Stanislav Binički”, conducted by Rade Pejčić.
Special attention in this year’s program will be dedicated to Dmitri Shostakovich and Mikis Theodorakis, marking 50 years since the death of the renowned Russian composer Shostakovich and 100 years since the birth of the celebrated Greek composer Theodorakis.
A tribute to Shostakovich will be held on the second day of the festival with performances of piano trios and Symphony No. 1. Organizers also announced a screening of the film “Zorba the Greek”, with music by Theodorakis, followed by a showcase concert by students of the “Vatroslav Lisinski” music school.
The festival program will also be enriched by performances from students of the School for Musical Talents in Ćuprija, as well as music schools “Mokranjac” and “Vatroslav Lisinski” from Belgrade, alongside lectures by musicologist and art historian Jaroslav Timofeev and conductor Sergey Smbatyan.
Kustendorf Classic will be held for the 12th time and is a joint project of Serbian director Emir Kusturica and the company Gazprom Neft.
