Špirić: referendum – Srpska’s response to political court rulings

The chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nikola Špirić, believes that Republika Srpska has a democratic response to the brutal political court rulings, since a referendum represents the highest level of democracy.

“Constant and brutal imposition of decisions is becoming the model of political life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, always directed against Republika Srpska and its citizens. To our attempts to achieve a minimum of compromise and preserve constitutional functioning within Bosnia and Herzegovina, we receive only demands from political Sarajevo for international interventionism that is tearing apart the fabric of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Špirić stated.

He added that there is no segment of society untouched by unconstitutional decisions crafted in the infamous Office of the High Representative—from culture, through fiscal policy, to constitutional issues.

“The leadership of Republika Srpska has clearly stood in defense of its institutions from such assaults, but this level of legal violence requires a response from the people who live here,” Špirić emphasized.

He questioned how joint institutions can function if every decision aligned with the constitutions of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina is followed by statements on the websites of foreign organizations and then by court rulings.

“It seems that those who swear by Bosnia and Herzegovina are doing everything to strip it of any attribute of statehood. Their hatred toward Republika Srpska is also destroying their declarative concern for Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Špirić concluded.
