Dačić: Any pressure on Serbs in BiH is pressure on Serbia, an aligned policy between Belgrade and Banja Luka is important

Serbia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, said today that any pressure on Serbs in BiH is, in fact, pressure on Serbia, and emphasized the importance of aligning the policies of Belgrade and Banja Luka.

Speaking about the situation in BiH and Republika Srpska after the BiH Central Election Commission (CEC) stripped the mandate of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, Dačić said that the situation is very complex and “probably the most serious” since the signing of the Dayton Agreement, stressing the need for wise and thoughtful moves, with full coordination between Serbia’s leadership, specifically President Aleksandar Vučić, and the leadership of Republika Srpska, particularly with Dodik.

Dačić assessed that through certain revisions of the Dayton Agreement, there is an attempt to achieve something that is not a result of that agreement: the centralization of BiH, further stripping powers from the entities, and imposing one constitutive nation in BiH, excluding the other two – the Serb and Croat peoples.

“This is a step towards disempowering and dismantling Republika Srpska through pressure on Serbia to join all of this. There are both external and internal factors in our country that aim to weaken our position, disrupt our relations with key factors such as Russia and China, cause internal destabilization, and through the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, manifesting in the terror against the Serb people,” Dačić said in an interview with TV Pink.

He pointed out that for anything Serbs in BiH do, it is always said that Belgrade is behind it and reminded that World War I broke out because of the claim that Serbia stood behind the assassination in Sarajevo. He noted that this is why it is crucial for the policies of Belgrade and Banja Luka to be aligned and to define what the Serb national interests are.

“We haven’t had much success in this in the past, which is why there have been various obstacles and conflicts that sometimes led to the loss of certain territories, such as the Republic of Srpska Krajina,” Dačić said.
