Russia has requested closed-door consultations with the United Nations Security Council regarding the situation surrounding the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, RIA Novosti reports, citing the UN mission of Panama, which holds the Council presidency for August.
“Russia has requested a meeting,” the Panamanian mission confirmed, stating that the meeting was requested in connection with the verdict against the president of Republika Srpska, as reported by Russian media.
The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina overturned the will of the people in Republika Srpska and adopted a decision to strip President Milorad Dodik of his mandate. The decision was made unanimously.
President Dodik announced that a referendum would be held in Republika Srpska, where the people will vote on whether they accept unconstitutional decisions that cannot have legal effect on a president elected through a constitutional process.
According to the UN Security Council schedule, the closed-door consultations could take place tonight at 9 p.m.
