Banjac: We are entering a fight to defend the institutions of Srpska

“At this moment, the key word is unity, and that’s why we are entering a fight that won’t be easy — a fight to defend the institutions of Republika Srpska,” said Darko Banjac, president of the People’s Party of Srpska (NPS), appearing on RTRS Morning Programme.

The ruling coalition in Republika Srpska is determined to continue defending the constitutional and Dayton-based position of Srpska, as reiterated after yesterday’s meeting of coalition leaders and officials with President Milorad Dodik.

“The verdict against President Milorad Dodik is unconstitutional and against the Dayton Agreement, but the essence of it all is that this is an attack on Republika Srpska. The Court of BiH, which is not a constitutional category, made a decision against the president of Republika Srpska — in this case, Milorad Dodik,” Banjac emphasized.

He underlined that this is an attack on the Constitution of Republika Srpska.

“If we accept this, everything that happens in the future will follow the same pattern. Based on this logic, anyone who defends the interests of Republika Srpska can be prosecuted. That is why unity is crucial. The opposition claims this is an individual fight, but tomorrow it could be anyone’s fight — not just Milorad Dodik’s. I don’t know whether they agree to Republika Srpska losing its property. We must defend everything that could be taken from us in the future,” Banjac added.

He stated that regardless of whether the opposition supports some of the decisions, the ruling coalition is moving forward — to defend the integrity of Srpska’s institutions.

“If we accept this, we will live in fear of some politician from Sarajevo who might have a drink and say something against Srpska or an individual — and we would remain silent. That is why we must be ready for a struggle. It won’t be easy, but we must defend the constitutional position of the Serb people. We are a freedom-loving people, and it is through that freedom that we will fight for our rights,” Banjac concluded.
