After the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina annulled the will of the Serb people and adopted a decision to strip Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik of his mandate, the leadership of Srpska and the academic community are calling for unity and the protection of Srpska’s interests.
Željko Budimir, Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education, warned that the country is facing one of the greatest crises in the history of post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that it is crucial for all institutions—especially academic ones—to be informed so that a unified resistance can be formed against these attacks.
“This is the legalization of political persecution of the Serb people in BiH. After this ruling, we can expect a series of moves targeting Srpska—its education system, police, and property,” Budimir said.
The university will continue to operate according to schedule, but the academic community is calling on all its members to form a united front in defense of Republika Srpska’s institutions.
“The academic community must support the president and our institutions. I urge all political actors and institutional leadership to understand the gravity of the moment. Srpska is in a serious crisis and under attack. We call for unity in protecting the interests of Republika Srpska. If it is possible to remove a president, it means anyone can be removed. This doesn’t happen anywhere in the world,” said Radoslav Gajanin, rector of the University of Banja Luka.
