The decision by the National Museum to direct proceeds from the Sarajevo Haggadah as “support for Palestine” represents a political misuse of Jewish cultural heritage with a clear symbolic message—a statement against the State of Israel, said Milorad Dodik, president of Republika Srpska.
“Republika Srpska firmly distances itself from this act, which comes shortly after the banning of the Conference of European Rabbis in Sarajevo. This is not an isolated gesture, but part of a continued atmosphere of intolerance toward Jews. The Sarajevo Haggadah is not a tool for political confrontation—it is a witness to the history and culture of a people who survived persecution,” Dodik wrote on the social media platform X.
He stated that using the Haggadah to symbolically oppose Israel deeply offends those who understand what it means to the Jewish people.
The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that it will donate proceeds from the publication The Sarajevo Haggadah: History and Art, as well as ticket revenue from the exhibit space housing the Haggadah, for the purpose of aiding Palestine.
