Kojić: The international community and FBiH authorities remain silent on attacks against Serb returnees

Milorad Kojić, a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that it is deeply concerning that neither the authorities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) nor the representatives of the so-called international community are reacting or even mentioning any sanctions against the vandals who have recently been attacking Serb returnees in that entity, desecrating Serb cemeteries and Orthodox holy sites.

Kojić warns that the increasingly frequent attacks on returnees of Serb nationality and the desecration of Orthodox cemeteries—often occurring during Orthodox religious holidays—appear to have become normalized behavior among Bosniaks in FBiH, as there is no system of punishment for these offenders and no response from the international community.

According to him, under the Dayton constitutional arrangement of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all peoples—whether in FBiH or in Republika Srpska—have the full right to sustainable return and the exercise of their religious practices.

“This is something that is entirely normal in Republika Srpska. However, the tacit approval of attacks on returnees through the lack of punishment in FBiH has become truly alarming and can be seen as a serious form of pressure aimed at completely removing Serbs from the territory of the Federation—forcing them to abandon their ancestral homes or give away their property for next to nothing,” Kojić told Srna.

He emphasizes that this represents a classic “Kosovo system,” and if such a perverse and inhumane system continues to go unpunished by the prosecution and police in FBiH, it indeed poses a real danger of Serbs being entirely ethnically cleansed from FBiH even in a time of peace.
