Višković: At no point have we caused harm to Republika Srpska or its institutions

The Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, explained why he, the Speaker of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandić, and President Milorad Dodik went to the Court of BiH, despite previously claiming they would never go there of their own free will.

“From this perspective, we were criticized for not responding, for keeping Republika Srpska and its citizens in uncertainty, as if Republika Srpska were in a hostage situation because of us ‘fugitives.’ And when we decided to take that burden off ourselves and Republika Srpska, then we were blamed for going. When exactly are we supposed to be in the right? When they demanded we go or now when they ask why we went?” Višković asked.

He stated that it was true they had previously said they wouldn’t go to the Court of BiH, but at that time, it was the correct decision.

“We pursued a smart, statesmanlike, and meaningful policy. Our message the entire time was that we would never endanger the stability and security of Republika Srpska and its citizens. Did we do so with any of our actions? No. Did many expect us to? Yes,” Višković told Provjereno.

The Prime Minister pointed out that they are now being criticized by the same people who used to go to that same court and, as he put it, “demanded our heads and the blood of Republika Srpska.”

“We acted more than responsibly. President Dodik, Speaker Stevandić, and I are all protected individuals. Around us—whether we want it or not—are a number of people and members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Any threat to our safety requires them to react. We never wanted to put those people in a difficult position,” said the Prime Minister of Srpska.

He added that he even asked the Prosecutor’s Office: “What would have happened if I had been in the vehicle that was stopped in the Brčko District?”

“Was my life endangered? Yes. Were two ambulances stationed there? Yes. Why? In case of potential casualties,” the Prime Minister said, adding that there could have been casualties on both sides and that the leadership of Srpska did not want such outcomes.

He emphasized that at no point did they cause harm to Republika Srpska.

“We acted wisely, lobbied, and waited for the right moment in global developments. At no point did we act recklessly, at no point did we harm Republika Srpska or its institutions. We violated nothing—we simply did the job we were elected to do, as responsible individuals, as people heading the institutions,” Višković concluded.
