Novi Grad: Play “Patriarch Pavle – being human among humans and inhumans” performed

The play “Patriarch Pavle – Being Human Among Humans and Inhumans” was performed in Novi Grad, reminding the audience of fundamental human values and sources of strength in challenging times.

Written by Jovan Janjić and directed by Milan Rus, the play was staged last night at the amphitheater of the Cultural and Educational Center as part of the “Petrovdan Days,” marking the municipal holiday and patron saint’s day of Novi Grad. Admission was free.

Actor Milan Malbaša, who plays the lead role, said this role is the greatest gift for any actor—but also a great responsibility.

Actor Aleksandar Dunić plays a journalist interviewing the late Patriarch Pavle. He noted that Pavle was deeply respected not only among the Serb people but also by members of other faiths and nations, making the role particularly demanding.

“When you portray historical figures who still live in the consciousness of the people, it’s an honor and a privilege, but also a risk—because the audience arrives with full hearts and doesn’t want to leave disappointed,” Dunić said, adding that so far, no audience has left disappointed.

The play was produced by the Serbian Theatre in Hungary with support from the Hungarian government. It premiered on October 6, 2022, in Budapest and has since been performed in several cities across Serbia, Montenegro, and Republika Srpska.
