Goganović: Sarajevo’s ties with Tehran are a security threat

The Bosniak part of Sarajevo maintaining ties with Tehran poses a threat to the security of both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe, which illegitimate Christian Schmidt remains silent about. However, Republika Srpska and its representatives, led by the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and the Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović, will provide full support in the fight against terrorism, said Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers Aleksandar Goganović.

Goganović emphasized that Republika Srpska remains firmly committed to combating terrorism and strengthening its partnership with the United States.

“The recent arrest of a BiH citizen in Germany shows that radical extremism is no longer just an internal threat but a direct security risk for the entire European continent. That is why we must act decisively with our international partners,” said Goganović.

He particularly warned about political Sarajevo, which, as he noted, has for years maintained close connections with structures linked to radical Islam.

“A segment of the Bosniak political and religious establishment has been building ties with Iran—a known sponsor of extremism—while at the same time rejecting sincere cooperation in the field of security. Iran is using BiH as a platform to expand its influence in the Balkans, which presents a direct threat to the interests of the U.S. and the EU,” Goganović told SRNA.

He stressed that the silence of the illegitimate Schmidt is especially concerning, given that he comes from Germany and understands the magnitude of the threat such developments pose to the EU.

The Deputy Minister of Defense stated that Schmidt, who is set to leave office by the end of the year, once painted a target on his head as well, which resulted in numerous threats.

“If this is not stopped, the radicalism that has been tolerated in Sarajevo for years will inevitably spill over into the EU—and Schmidt will bear responsibility for ignoring these obvious threats. Republika Srpska and its representatives, led by President Milorad Dodik and Serb member and Chairwoman of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović, will provide full support in the fight against terrorism, which threatens all of Europe,” Goganović concluded.
