Rod Blagojević, American politician of Serb origin and former governor of Illinois, stated today that the Dayton Peace Agreement is being dismantled by Bosniak politicians who are working with the unelected foreigner Christian Schmidt, who is attempting to strip the Serb people in BiH of their autonomy.
Speaking to reporters in Višegrad, Blagojević emphasized that this is a matter of democracy and the rule of law—of people’s right to elect their leaders, have their own government, and preserve their autonomy.
“This is no small matter. As an American of Serb origin, I thank the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, for having the courage to stand up for what is right for the Serb people,” Blagojević stated.
He noted that President Dodik has been portrayed negatively by Missouri Governor Ann Wagner in her statement today, simply because he dared to oppose the German politician Schmidt. Wagner, he stressed, lacks a clear understanding of what is truly happening in Republika Srpska—let alone in BiH.
According to Blagojević, Congresswoman Wagner claims to support the Dayton Agreement but doesn’t even realize that Serbs are signatories and are fulfilling their obligations under the agreement.
“The fact is,” Blagojević continued, “that it is Bosniak politicians who are violating the Dayton Peace Agreement.”
“As a Serb immigrant, I see it as my duty to return to the United States and inform everyone willing to listen about the injustice Serbs here are facing—particularly at the hands of the German politician Christian Schmidt. I will also remind Americans of something this Congresswoman clearly doesn’t know. My suggestion to Congresswoman Wagner is to come visit us here—because we are the ones on the side of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law,” Blagojević asserted.
While visiting Višegrad today, Blagojević thanked the mayor of the municipality, Mladen Đurević, for his hospitality, adding that Višegrad will become a major tourist destination not only for people from the former Yugoslavia, but for all of Europe and the world.
“I believe Americans will come too—because when we go home, we’ll tell everyone just how beautiful Višegrad is,” he said.
He added that he had the opportunity to visit the site where General Draža Mihailović, commander of the Yugoslav Royal Army in the Homeland, was captured in 1946, and noted that he is the only U.S. congressman in history who knows the song “Sprem’te se, sprem’te četnici,” which he learned from his father, a former soldier in the Royal Yugoslav Army.
Blagojević, a close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump, arrived in Republika Srpska on Sunday, June 22, at the invitation of President Milorad Dodik. In the days since, he has met with the top leadership of Republika Srpska and offered them his strong support.
Following his meeting with Dodik, Blagojević stated that he will personally inform President Trump about the situation in Republika Srpska and how its rights are being threatened by an unelected bureaucrat.
