It was an honor to attend the reception at the U.S. Embassy today on the occasion of Independence Day and the 249th birthday of the United States. The key message during the address by Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Koski was clear – the problems within Bosnia and Herzegovina must be resolved by the democratically elected leaders of BiH, said Marko Romić, advisor to the President of Republika Srpska.
“We from Republika Srpska understand this to mean that our institutions – first and foremost the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and our Government – represent the interests of Srpska, and that this position must also be respected by the other entity,” Romić stated.
Romić pointed out that politicians from the Federation of BiH have for years sent unified messages on behalf of the entire country, disregarding the fact that there is no position of BiH without the consent and agreement of the authorities in Republika Srpska.
“There is no Dayton Bosnia without Republika Srpska. The new administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is openly perceived as friendly toward Srpska and the Serbs, and it is seen as an opportunity for a new chapter in relations with the United States. Unfortunately, there is mild hysteria over the strengthening and establishment of these relations among the opposition in Srpska and among Bosniak ruling parties. Their concern is justified – they will no longer be the exclusive guests at U.S. Embassy events, nor will only one (Bosniak) side of the story be heard in Washington,” Romić concluded.
