Part of the Bosniak elite enriched themselves with funds intended for migrants

A portion of the Bosniak political elite within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) has profited from the misuse of funds intended for migrants, according to an information document discussing the intentions of the UK Government and certain EU countries to deport migrants to Republika Srpska. The document will be debated tomorrow by members of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

The funds in question originate from EU and UN programs, as well as financial aid from the diaspora and Arab countries.

The alleged assistance was meant for individuals affected by war—primarily of Muslim faith—who were expelled from war-torn countries. However, a significant portion of them were in fact economic migrants or individuals not originating from conflict zones.

“The trend of securing material gain is also evident in recent suggestions that Bosnia and Herzegovina accept a portion of the migrant population from the UK, the EU, and certain member states—individuals who have not integrated into the social systems of those countries and who represent a burden on their budgets,” the document states.

It further notes that material benefit from the migrant situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was not limited to political elites. Other segments of the population also profited, given that migrants passing through Bosnia and Herzegovina were accommodated in reception centers located in this entity.

Migrants used transportation and various services—some financed by international organizations and others paid directly from their own funds.

The National Assembly of Republika Srpska is expected to discuss a draft declaration on migrants, submitted by President Milorad Dodik, during its 15th regular session. The draft declaration states that the Assembly categorically rejects any plan that involves opening reception centers for migrants on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in Republika Srpska.

Prior to the regular session, the 23rd special session is scheduled to be held.

The special session is set to begin tomorrow at 10:00 AM, and the regular session will follow upon its conclusion.
