The genocide against Serbs in the 20th century began in Podrinje in 1914, and during the Second World War, Serbs suffered at the hands of the same perpetrators. Particularly horrific crimes were committed in Srebrenica, Bratunac, Milići, and Han Pijesak, said historian Miloš Ković.
“The genocide against Serbs started in Podrinje, near Foča, during the First World War through executions, treason trials, and concentration camps. It then spread across the Drina to Mačva and Jadar in 1914, while in the Second World War, from 1941 to 1945, it surpassed even the worst expectations,” Ković said in our morning program.
He emphasized that the crimes in Srebrenica, Bratunac, Milići, and Han Pijesak were especially horrifying.
“Too much happened to the Serbs in the 20th century for it to be mere coincidence. That is why we must continually remind the public of these crimes,” Ković said.
According to him, all these crimes against Serbs are being covered up, particularly by political Sarajevo and subsequently by the West.
The core of these crimes, he pointed out, lies in the intent to sever the Serbs of Republika Srpska from Serbia and Montenegro, which is why the area around the Drina River was the first to be targeted.
“The crimes against Serbs were initiated by Austria-Hungary. The intention came from the West and has continued into the modern era. The West sees Serbs as little Russians, and every Serb success is perceived as a success for Russia. Although the situation may seem hopeless, it is up to us to defend the truth,” Ković stressed.
He concluded that the truth about crimes against Serbs is reaching all corners of the world through Russia, and that cooperation between Serb and Russian historians is of great importance.
