The 18th Drawing and Music Festival has opened at the “Sreten Stojanović” Gallery in Prijedor.
This year, the guests of honor are two Chinese visual artists.
For the first time in history, female visual artists from China are visiting Republika Srpska. Huang Yehua is a member of the Chinese Women’s Painting Association and the Director of the Committee for Chinese Classical Painting Art at the Hunan Association for Calligraphy and Painting.
She painted in front of an audience accompanied by a pianist.
“The biggest difference between Western and Chinese art is that we emphasize lines. We also use ink, and it is very important in our painting,” said Huang Yehua, visual artist from China.
He Weina is a renowned Chinese artist who has been painting for 35 years. She focuses on modern Chinese painting, which she said she would also present in Prijedor.
“The world has become a global village, and that’s why Chinese artists can now learn from those in the West and vice versa. Because of that, we have new techniques and new knowledge,” she added.
“I invite people to come in the next seven days, to engage with the artists. They are very open to dialogue—smiling, cheerful, and sociable. Come and see something truly rare. Chinese art is something absolutely different from our European traditions,” emphasized Boris Eremić, director of the “Sreten Stojanović” Gallery.
The musical segment of the festival continues on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. with a cabaret performance by Nebojša Dugalić and Boris Pingović. The festival concludes on Friday with an exhibition of works by the Chinese artists and a concert in Chinese performed by Milica Milović, who runs the Chinese Cultural Center in Belgrade.
