President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, in his speech before the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, summarized everything that Republika Srpska and the Serb people stand for—that they are literally the only ones protecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and seeking adherence to the signed peace accords, said political analyst from Belgrade, Stevica Deđanski.
Deđanski emphasized that Dodik once again reiterated the truth—that it is not the Serbs who wish to destroy anything, but rather, they seek peace, recognize Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the same time preserve their own state in accordance with the original Dayton Agreement.
“In other words, as our people would say, he ‘spelled out’ everything that needed to be said, showing both determination and strength to speak the truth. And the truth is on our side—nothing more needs to be added or taken away,” said Deđanski.
He noted that, although Dodik addressed the international community in his speech, the problem lies in the fact that no one from the international community—or the West—acknowledged it.
“At least someone could have said, ‘Bravo, this is exactly what we want,’ to commend our determination to preserve Bosnia and Herzegovina and the peace within it,” Deđanski added.
The lack of international praise for Dodik’s speech, Deđanski said, shows that the international community is not interested in cooperation among the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina or in preserving Dayton-based Bosnia and Herzegovina. Instead, they aim to degrade the Serb people and abolish Republika Srpska, which has always been their goal.
“We’ve known this for a long time because they keep sending so-called High Representatives who act against that cooperation—especially the current one, who has clearly come with the sole purpose of creating discord among the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Deđanski.
Nevertheless, he believes it is important for the Serb side to continually reiterate its legitimate demands because, as he noted, the world is changing—and one day, “in a year, two, or five, it will matter who did and said what.”
“The empty phrases used to humiliate independent nations and violate international law will no longer hold weight. As tiresome or repetitive as it may seem, we must keep saying the same thing—something that is clear to everyone—and that is precisely what is reflected in Dodik’s speech,” Deđanski concluded.
